Uta’s Milestone Stories

The first great triumph of Uta Pippig’s running career came in her hometown of Berlin. It was on September 30, 1990 that the 25-year-old won the Berlin Marathon. It was an emotional experience, unique in her career. It was the first Berlin Marathon to go through both parts of Berlin and right through the Brandenburg Gate. Three days before Germany was re-unified, 25,000 ran through the city that had once been divided. Uta won with a course record of 2:28:37.
